Murphy Li is an interdisciplinary artist, digital creator, and project manager with a deep-rooted passion for both traditional Chinese art forms and modern digital media. Murphy’s artistic journey began at age 8 in southwestern China, where they learned the fundamentals of calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting. Studying techniques like line drawing (白描), meticulous brushwork (工笔), landscape (山水), and freehand (写意) painting, Murphy cultivated a rich foundation in the visual arts that continues to influence their work today.

As they explored new media, Murphy expanded into watercolor and oil painting, which broadened their creative language and introduced them to a wide array of styles and techniques. This exploration led them to digital media in college despite the study in Business and Entrepreneurship, where they began experimenting with graphic design and Western art forms in business world application, ultimately developing a unique blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics.

In 2018, Murphy formally transitioned to digital design and started taking on freelance commissions in 2020. They worked with diverse clients, focusing on creating detailed, impactful visual narratives that merge traditional artistry with digital design. Throughout this journey, Murphy’s skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, and Figma became central tools in their creative arsenal.

Murphy's interest in digital innovation led them to game development during their last 2 year of university studies, where they obtained a degree in computer science with a concentration in game development. Here, Murphy developed expertise in Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot, as well as smaller engines like Bitsy. Their hands-on experience spans 3D modeling, animation, and game mechanics, allowing them to integrate complex artistic visions into interactive, immersive experiences.

As a project manager for multiple game development projects, Murphy gained extensive experience in production coordination and team communication, ensuring the smooth progression of creative and technical workflows. They’ve led projects through all phases, from concept development and production scheduling to final delivery, combining their eye for detail with a deep understanding of both creative and operational demands.

In founding their own studios, Meowshroom and Afterday Games, Murphy aims to bridge traditional art techniques with digital media, offering services that include original art designs, digital creations, and custom game-related merchandise. Murphy’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency in their processes aligns with the values of like-minded brands, reflecting an ethos of resourceful problem-solving and positive environmental impact.

With a keen eye for design, a passion for cultural heritage, and a talent for blending the traditional with the modern, Murphy is dedicated to crafting unique, immersive experiences across various mediums. Whether through personalized artwork, engaging digital content, or collaborative game projects, Murphy’s work strives to inspire, connect, and drive forward the creative potential of art in the digital age.
